Project #1415 on iSENSEProject.org
In this project, you moved through the phases of the Engineering Design Process as you planned, constructed and redesigned parachutes. The goal of your assignment was to construct a parachute was to carry your toy soldier from a drop of 2 meters to a target in the slowest possible time.
Today you will look at the data collected through your test phase and draw some conclusions about the relationship between drop time and velocity. Also, consider whether velocity changes when something is dropped at different heights? The data will also help you see which group created a parachute with the slowest rate of descent.
1. Look at the default visualization. The drop heights for all four trials was the same
(2 meters or 5.56 meters). What do you notice about the relationship between the drop times and the average velocities of your science group?
2. Which science group's parachute had the slowest rate of descent? Which group's parachute has the fastest rate of descent? How do you know?
3. When looking at the data from each of the different drop heights, what can you learn?
3. Look at each group's Distance Landed from Target. What can you surmise from this?
