Description

The assignment is taken from a worksheet found on line at http://newyorkscienceteacher.com/sci/files/user-submitted/Density.pdf

Background

A ratio is a comparison of two numbers by division.  Density is a special type of ratio, called a unit rate, which compares the amount of mass per single unit of volume.  Different sample sizes of materials with uniform composition, are proportional to each other.  This relationship is represented by a straight line in the saved visualization.

Use the graph in the saved visualization to complete the following.

1.  Determine how much mass a sample of galena would have if its volume was 75cc.

2.  Determine how much volume a sample of galena would have if its mass was 300g.

3.  Describe the relationship between mass an volume shown by the graph.

4.  How does the density of Sample 2 compare to that of Sample 4?

5.  How did the density of the largest sample compare to the smallest sample?

6.  What is the effect of sample size on the density of a material with a uniform composition?
