Changing States - Solid, Liquid, Gas
This project is locked.
This project is hidden.
In this experiment, students will
- Determine the temperature at which ice melts
- Determine the temperature at which water boils
- Make observations about water as it goes from a solid to a liquid, to a gas.
The teacher will perform the experiment using a beaker of ice heated on a hot plate. Students will record the following observations:
What happens to the ice as heat is added?
What happens to the temperature as heat is added to the ice?
What happens to the temperature when the ice is completely melted?
What happens to water as heat is added?
What happens to the temperature as heat is added to water?
What happens to boiling water as heat is added?
What happens to the temperature as heat is added to boiling water?
Analysis:
At what temperature does ice melt?
At what temperature does water boil?
What needs to happen to turn steam back into water?
What needs to happen to turn water back into ice?
