Description

Is your reaction time quicker with your dominant hand or your non-dominant hand?

  1. Hold your thumb and forefinger of your dominant hand about an inch apart.
  2. Have a partner hold a ruler so that that your forefinger is between the 0 cm and 1 cm marks.
  3. The partner should release the ruler without warning you.  Try to catch the ruler between your thumb and forefinger.
  4. Record the displacement of the ruler (how far it fell).
  5. Repeat twice more for your dominant hand and then three times for your non-dominant hand.
  6. Calculate your average displacements and then convert to meters.
  7. Use your knowledge of free fall and kinematics to determine your reaction time!
