Project #3249 on iSENSEProject.org
Every year during flu season I always discuss with my Biotechnology students how the flu virus works, where it came from, and how to recognize virulence. This conversation usually leads to an ethical discussion about vaccinations and the affect it has on each student's life. This project was designed as a visual aid and data analysis tool in discussing the mortality rate of the flu each year.
The data for this project was retrieved from the Center for Disease Control's website:
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/flu_pneumonia_mortality/flu_pneumonia.htm
Project Questions:
1. Which area of the country shows the highest mortality (number of deaths) from the flu virus in 2015?
2. Which state has the greatest number of deaths from the flu in 2015? Why do you think this is the case?
3. Which area of the country shows the lowest incidence of mortality from the flu? Why do you think this is the case?
4. What recommendations would you give families living in New England if you were a doctor?
