United States National Parks Geospatial Lesson

This lesson is designed for 4th grade students. They will be learning about finding data in an iSense visualization, map reading and some of our national parks in this lesson. The lesson is based upon the following standard: 

4.12 Identify and describe unique features of the United States (e.g., the Everglades, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, the Redwood Forest, Yellowstone National Park, and Yosemite National Park). (G)

and from the History and Geography Framework: 1. Use map and globe skills to determine absolute locations (latitude and longitude) of places studied. (G)

This project was done in collaboration with Tracy Swiniarski and Rachelle Carroll. We brainstormed and worked on it together based in part on a project we have done in the past together.

It would be helpful to explain latitude & longitude first using the BrainPop video about the topic.

Data for this project was taken from Google Maps.

Working in partners and using the iSense visualization students will locate various national parks to answer questions such as the state, latitude & longitude. See the attached worksheet for specific questions. Each student will complete their own worksheet.
