Description

How Many Breaths?

Day 1

Students will have the opportunity to time a partner and then be timed to see how many breaths they take in a minute.  They will then use proportions to estimate how many breaths they will take in an hour and how many breaths in a day.  Also, upon entering their data, they will have the option to select male or female and whether or not they play a sport to see if those variables will have any effect on the data.

Day 2

Each student will input his/her data into iSense in order to analyze and compare proportional relationships.  Students will use scatter plots, bar graphs, and histograms to explain relationships between number of breaths and variables of gender and playing a sport.  Students will record answers on the Day 2 sheet.

Materials: stopwatches, calculators, Chromebooks (if available),
