Project #621 on iSENSEProject.org
In this activity, students will use a Slinky to simulate the motion of a Primary Wave (P-Wave) and a Secondary or Shear Wave (S-Wave) that occur during an earthquake. They will follow the set of procedures found in the file in the Media section
The students will work in groups to collect data about how long it takes for a P-Wave and an S-Wave to travel a set distance through the Slinky. They will take three measurements for each type of wave. They will then take that data and input it here.
Once the entire class has inputted their data, the students will use their data as well as the class's data as a whole to answer a series of questions. Those questions can be found in the Media section as well.
