Anscombe’s Quartet is a elegant demonstration of the dangers of summary statistics. It’s a group of four datasets that appear to be similar when using typical summary statistics, yet tell four different stories when graphed.
Look at the mean for each data set (either in the bar graph or the summary page). Then use the scatter plot to compare. Note that the equation for the linear fit is the same for each data set.
